Punjab and Haryana are reeling under severe heatwave conditions, with maximum temperatures ranging between 40 and 47 degrees Celsius across both states. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the region.
The Union Territory of Chandigarh is also experiencing intense heatwave conditions. Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, Surendra Pal, told Akashvani News that dry weather conditions are likely to continue and temperatures are expected to rise further over the next three to four days. He said western districts of both Punjab and Haryana are likely to witness more intense heatwave conditions.
In Punjab, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Mansa, Sangrur, Bathinda and Muktsar are expected to be the most affected districts.
In Haryana, Hisar, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Gurugram are likely to experience severe heat conditions.
During the last 24 hours, Faridkot recorded the highest temperature in Punjab at 47.3 degrees Celsius, while Rohtak registered 46.9 degrees Celsius.
