The West Bengal Government has notified a list of 66 classes of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for reservation in services and posts under the state government following an order of the Calcutta High Court.

The state government has also withdrawn the earlier reservation structure of 10 per cent for OBC-A and 7 per cent for OBC-B categories.

In a notification issued by the Backward Classes Welfare Department of the Government of West Bengal, the list of 66 OBC classes has been published for 7 per cent reservation. The earlier two-category reservation system has been struck down.

Following the Division Bench order of the Calcutta High Court, the OBC list comprising 66 classes included in the State List before 2010 under Article 16(4) of the Constitution of India will remain intact.
