The campaigning for the local body elections in Gujarat came to an end this evening. Following the directives of the State Election Commission, all forms of public canvassing, including rallies, processions, and the use of loudspeakers, were prohibited after 5:00 PM today, marking the beginning of the 48-hour silent period before polling.
On the final day of campaigning, candidates and political parties put in their best efforts to reach out to the voters. Senior BJP leader and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a series of roadshows in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, in Surat, the Aam Aadmi Party held a grand roadshow led by Visavadar MLA Gopal Italia and State General Secretary Manoj Sorathiya. Congress leaders also held bike rallies in Ahmedabad.
The elections are scheduled to be held on Sunday for 15 Municipal Corporations, 84 Nagarpalikas, 34 District Panchayats, and 260 Taluka Panchayats, along with by-elections for vacant seats in 11 other municipalities. The state administration has finalised all necessary arrangements to ensure a free and fair polling process across all constituencies. The counting of votes will take place on the 28th of April.
