Govt assures steps to ensure energy supply and safety of Indian nationals amid West Asia situation

Government today said that it is ensuring preparedness and taking all necessary steps to facilitate energy supply, maritime operations, and support to Indian nationals amid the evolving West Asia situation.

In a statement, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that enforcement actions to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG are continuing across the country, and yesterday, more than 2,300 raids were conducted across the country. It said that online LPG cylinder bookings increased to 98 per cent on industry basis, and as of yesterday, around 49.8 Lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered against bookings of around 41.6 lakh LPG cylinders.

Delivery Authentication Code-based deliveries have increased to around 93 per cent to prevent diversion. It mentioned that the total number of 5 Kg FTL cylinders sold during February was around 21.7 Lakh, and over 79 thousand 5 kg cylinders were delivered yesterday.

Total commercial LPG allocation has been increased to about 70 per cent of pre-crisis levels, including 10 per cent reform-linked allocation. Since March, about 5.88 Lakh PNG connections have been gasified, and infrastructure has been created for additional 2.68 lakh connections.

It further noted that all Indian seafarers in the region are safe, and no incident involving Indian-flagged vessels has been reported in the past 24 hours. The DG Shipping Control Room has handled over 8 thousand 2 hundred calls and more than 17 thousand emails since activation. In the past 24 hours, 113 calls and 295 emails have been received.

The Dedicated special control room in the Ministry of External Affairs is also operational to respond to queries from Indian nationals and their families. Government assured that the overall flight situation is improving with additional flights operating from the region to various destinations in India. Further, the Indian Embassy in Tehran facilitated movement of 2 thousand 490 Indian nationals out of Iran through land border routes.
