Campaigning picks up for 2nd phase of Assembly Elections in West Bengal

Campaigning for the second phase of the assembly elections is in full swing in West Bengal. Senior BJP Leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Krishnanagar, declared that political change in the state is inevitable. He praised the Election Commission, noting that reports of poll violence have been the lowest in fifty years.

Mr. Modi alleged that the TMC government in West Bengal is encouraging illegal infiltration and facilitating the settlement of these individuals by providing forged documents. Mr. Modi also criticised the Trinamool Congress for blocking the reservation bill in Parliament, while highlighting record voter turnout in the first phase.

Mr Modi claimed that the TMC believes in supporting infiltrators and promoting their interests. He said his government is moving forward with the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. The Prime Minister said once the BJP government is formed in the state, the process of granting citizenship under the CAA will be accelerated.

The Prime Minister highlighted that this is the first election in the State, in the past 50 years, where violence has been kept to a minimum. Mr Modi said ensuring peaceful voting is a significant achievement of the Election Commission.

Later today, he is scheduled to hold rallies in Mathurapur and a roadshow in Howrah. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is campaigning in Hooghly, with public meetings in Balagarh and Pursurah, followed by a roadshow in Madhyamgram. BJP’s national president, Nitin Nabin, is leading two roadshows in Khardah and Kashipur-Belgachia.

On the Trinamool side, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is addressing gatherings in Chowringhee and Jadavpur and will join a march in Bhabanipur. Party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is campaigning in Metiabruz.

The Left is also active: CPIM state secretary Mohammad Salim is leading a roadshow in Ballygunge and a march from Konnagar to Uttarpara. Senior leaders including M.A. Baby and Brinda Karat are attending a rally in Jadavpur.

Meanwhile, leaders from the Congress, ISF, and other parties are making their own push to capture voter sentiment. With the second phase of polling just ahead, the political battle in Bengal is intensifying, and all eyes are on the voters who will decide the outcome.
