Fourth Edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam
आज जैसे ही सूर्य की पहली किरणें काशी के घाटों को छूती हैं, शहर में कुछ ख़ास हलचल मच जाती है। चौथा काशी तमिल संगम शुरू हो रहा है- मानो सदियों बाद दो प्राचीन सांस्कृतिक भाई-बहन गले मिल रहे हों। व्हाट्सएप या ईमेल से बहुत पहले, विद्वान, संत, कवि और व्यापारी तमिल क्षेत्रों और काशी के बीच लगातार यात्रा करते थे-विचारों, धर्मग्रंथों, औषधियों और यहाँ तक कि खाद्य परंपराओं का आदान-प्रदान करते थे।

More than 14 hundred delegates from Tamil Nadu have arrived- students, teachers, writers, media folks, farmers, artisans, and spiritual scholars. It’s like a full train of talent arriving with stories, songs, and wisdom to share.
And the heart behind this entire celebration is an initiative envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi- a beautiful effort to celebrate the timeless bond between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, two of India’s oldest centres of culture, knowledge, and spirituality.

आइए 2022 में वापस चलते हैं, जब इसका पहला संस्करण 16 नवंबर से 15 दिसंबर तक आयोजित किया गया था। तमिलनाडु से 2,500 से ज़्यादा लोग – शिक्षक, छात्र, कारीगर और किसान – वाराणसी, प्रयागराज और अयोध्या के 8-दिवसीय दौरे के लिए अपने बैग पैक करके आए थे – उन्होंने साथ खाना खाया, नई चीज़ें सीखीं और जीवन भर की यादें बनाईं।
They explored Varanasi in a way that textbooks can never show- walking through the ancient lanes, listening to the Ganga’s soothing rhythm, soaking in the vibrant culture of Kashi, and unfolding the spiritual depth of places they’d only heard about. This first edition took place at BHU, right in the cultural heart of the city.
और 2022 ही क्यों? क्योंकि यह आज़ादी का अमृत महोत्सव का वर्ष था, जब पूरा देश आज़ादी के 75 साल पूरे होने का जश्न मनाते हुए अपनी जड़ों को फिर से खोज रहा था। संगमम हमारी सभ्यतागत निरंतरता का एक आदर्श अनुस्मारक बनकर उभरा है-कैसे परंपराएँ, विचार और सांस्कृतिक संबंध टूटते नहीं; वे बस बहते रहते हैं, जैसे स्वयं गंगा।
Fast forward to December 2023- the second edition. This time the venue was the stunning Namo Ghat, where the event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Here’s something really unique happened: for the first time ever, an app provided real-time translation of the PM’s speech into Tamil. कल्पना कीजिए कि आप श्रोताओं के बीच बैठे हों और किसी नेता को अपनी दिल को प्यारी भाषा में बोलते हुए सुनें, तो आपको ऐसा लगेगा जैसे तकनीक संस्कृति को एक गर्मजोशी भरा आलिंगन दे रही हो। परंपरा और आधुनिक उपकरणों का पुल वास्तव में ऐसा ही होता है।
भारत सरकार के तकनीकि शिक्षा एवं साक्षरता विभाग के संयुक्त सचिव गोविन्द जायसवाल ने बताया कि काशी-तमिल संमगम 4.0 के पहले चरण में तमिलनाडु से छात्रों और शिक्षकों का सात दल वाराणसी आयेगा। इस दल में शामिल शिक्षक वाराणसी के स्कूलों में बच्चों को तमिल भाषा एवं संस्कृति का परिचय देंगे और उन्हें तमिल भाषा सिखायेंगे। इस संगमम से आने वाली पीढ़ियां न केवल तमिल भाषा जानेंगी बल्कि उसकी सांस्कृतिक संमृद्धि और भारत के साझा सांस्कृतिक ऐतिहासिक विरासत का अनुभव करेंगी। दूसरे चरण में लगभग 300 छात्र बनारस से तमिलनाडु भेजे जाएंगे। उन्होंने बताया कि काशी तमिल संगमम का मुख्य उद्देश्य भाषाई, सांस्कृतिक और शैक्षिक आदान-प्रदान के माध्यम से भारत की विविधता में एकता की भावना को मजबूत करना है। इस पहल का विषय है “तमिल सीखें – तमिल करकलम”, जिसके माध्यम से तमिल भाषा, साहित्य, संगीत, नृत्य, लोक परंपराएँ और सांस्कृतिक विरासत को उत्तर भारत तक ले जाना है। तमिलनाडु और काशी की प्राचीन सभ्यता, लोक कलाएँ, धार्मिक एवं सांस्कृतिक परंपराएं, साझा चिंतन और संवाद की संस्कृति – ये सब मिलकर भारत की समृद्ध विरासत का प्रतीक हैं। परिक्रमा के लिए आकाशवाणी गोरखपुर से प्रेम चन्द्र गुप्ता।

By February 2025, the Sangamam had grown into a tradition of its own. The third edition, held from the 15th to the 24th, shone a spotlight on the legacy of Sage Agasthyar.
It’s a reminder that even though even though India speaks in hundreds of languages, its heart beats in one rhythm. This year, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 comes with a beautiful and heart-touching theme: “Let us Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam.”
जब आपके परिवार में कोई दूसरे रिश्तेदार की मातृभाषा सीखना शुरू करता है, तो रिश्ता तुरंत गहरा हो जाता है। इस विषय का सार यही है। यह एक सरल लेकिन गहरा संदेश देता है: सभी भारतीय भाषाएँ हमारी भाषाएँ हैं।
They all belong to one big Bharatiya Bhasha family, just like cousins who grew up in different households but share the same roots.
And this initiative isn’t just symbolic. It aims to take Tamil, one of the world’s oldest and richest classical languages, to every corner of the country. Learning Tamil opens a doorway to a universe of ancient wisdom- knowledge preserved for thousands of years in classical Tamil texts, Sangam poetry, Siddha medical treatises, temple inscriptions, and timeless stories.
ज़रा सोचिए: वाराणसी का एक छात्र पहली बार संगम काव्य पढ़ रहा है और वही भावनाएँ महसूस कर रहा है जो दो हज़ार साल पहले मदुरै में किसी ने महसूस की थीं। यही सांस्कृतिक एकता का जादू है।
इस साल क्या नया और रोमांचक है? इस संस्करण में दो प्रमुख बातें हैं:
- A Grand Valedictory at Rameswaram- where Lord Rama’s footsteps echo spiritual strength. It’s the perfect place to conclude a festival celebrating India’s eternal connections.
- Two New Initiatives Launching This Year are- The first one is Tamil Karkalam: A wonderful opportunity where students from North India get to travel to Tamil Nadu and actually learn Tamil right where it’s lived, loved, and spoken.
यह किसी किताब से नहीं, बल्कि संगीतकारों के साथ बैठकर संगीत सीखने जैसा है। और दूसरा है ऋषि अगस्त्य वाहन अभियान – यह केटीएस 4.0 के सबसे प्रतीकात्मक और विस्मयकारी हिस्सों में से एक है। 2 दिसंबर 2025 को, यह अभियान तेनकाशी से शुरू होगा – जिसका शाब्दिक अर्थ है “दक्षिण काशी” – यह नाम इसलिए दिया गया क्योंकि राजा आदि वीर पराक्रम पांडियन ने सदियों पहले उत्तर की यात्रा की थी, सांस्कृतिक सद्भाव का प्रसार किया था और यहाँ तक कि एक शिव मंदिर का निर्माण भी किया था, जिससे उत्तर भारत और दक्षिण भारत के बीच एक आध्यात्मिक संबंध बना था।

The Kashi Tamil Sangamam, especially this fourth edition, carries a heartfelt message: When we learn each other’s languages, we learn to love each other’s worlds. When we celebrate each other’s culture, we celebrate our own unity. And in the words of ancient Sangam poets:
“The world is one home,
and all people are our family.”
That’s the spirit of KTS 4.0- a celebration of language, legacy, knowledge, and the eternal oneness of India.

NATIONAL POLLUTION CONTROL DAY
हर साल 2 दिसंबर को भारत राष्ट्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण दिवस मनाता है। यह दिन एक बेहद गंभीर याद दिलाता है: 1984 की दुखद भोपाल गैस त्रासदी। शहर की वह शांत रात एक बुरे सपने में बदल गई थी – जब यूनियन कार्बाइड के स्वामित्व वाले एक कीटनाशक संयंत्र से मध्य प्रदेश के भोपाल में घनी आबादी वाले इलाके में ज़हरीली मिथाइल आइसोसाइनेट गैस का रिसाव शुरू हो गया था।
Thousands of innocent lives were lost- at least 4 thousand people- and families were torn apart in an instant. Bhopal became, tragically, a gas chamber. National Pollution Control Day isn’t just about remembering the lives lost. It’s also about learning from the disaster and making sure such tragedies never happen again. It reminds us that industrial carelessness can have devastating consequences, and that pollution control is not optional- it’s a responsibility. वर्षों से, भारत ने लोगों, जल, वायु और मृदा की सुरक्षा के लिए एक मज़बूत पर्यावरण सुरक्षा ढाँचा तैयार किया है। हमारे पर्यावरण को सुरक्षित रखने वाले प्रमुख कानून हैं-
- पर्यावरण (संरक्षण) अधिनियम, 1986- भोपाल त्रासदी के तुरंत बाद पारित, यह कानून सभी पर्यावरण कानूनों का एक छत्र है। यह सरकार को प्रदूषण मानक निर्धारित करने, उद्योगों को विनियमित करने और प्रदूषण फैलाने वालों को दंडित करने का अधिकार देता है। ये वस्तुतः कारखानों के लिए “यातायात नियमों” की तरह हैं- यह सुनिश्चित करते हुए कि वे सार्वजनिक सुरक्षा के साथ खिलवाड़ न करें।
- Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981- This law is designed to monitor and control air pollution. It sets limits for emissions and keeps industries in check, helping us breathe cleaner air.
- National Green Tribunal (NGT), 2010- The NGT is like a fast-track court for environmental cases. It hears complaints about pollution, forest destruction, or violations of environmental law- and ensures quick action.
अब 1974 में स्थापित केंद्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण बोर्ड (CPCB) भारत के पर्यावरण का संरक्षक है। यह देश के पर्यावरण प्रहरी की तरह है। हवा, पानी और मिट्टी की गुणवत्ता की निगरानी से लेकर सरकार को नए नियमों पर सलाह देने तक, CPCB यह सुनिश्चित करता है कि प्रदूषण अनियंत्रित न हो।
So, National Pollution Control Day is both a memorial and a wake-up call. It reminds us that environmental safety is everyone’s responsibility- governments, industries, and citizens alike. And the laws and institutions like the CPCB make sure that the mistakes of the past, like Bhopal, are never repeated.

The much-awaited 36th Konark Festival and 15th International Sand Art Festival have kicked off near the world-renowned Sun Temple at Konark in Puri district of Odisha. The Konark Festival showcases the best of the traditional and classical dance forms of India, besides offering interesting insights into the rich cultural and dance heritage of the country.
The five-day annual Konark Festival of classical dance, featuring performances by some of the country’s most celebrated dancers in the magnificent Open-Air Auditorium with the iconic Sun Temple as its backdrop, is enthralling the visitors. The festival will continue till 5th of December. The events will feature renowned dancers showcasing classical dance performances, including Odissi, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam and Kathak, at the Konark Open-Air Auditorium. The 15th edition of International Sand Art Festival has also begun simultaneously at the golden sands of Chandrabhaga Beach at Konark. Artists from India and abroad are participating in the International Sand Art Festival,. Sand artists from countries like Japan, Russia, Spain, and Sri Lanka are participating in the festival. For the first time, Subhadra Shakti Mela is also being organised at the venue, featuring 200 stalls. Women from Mission Shakti groups and artisans from across Odisha are showcasing a wide variety of handicrafts and traditional products. Necessary arrangements have been made by the district administration across the venues with a special focus on safety, crowd management, and visitors comfort. Like every year lakhs of tourists are expected to visit the 15th International Sand Art Festival and the 36th Konark Festival during the five day extravaganza. The Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) has announced special packages for the Konark Festival and International Sand Art Festival at Konark.
