प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी तीन देशों क्रोएशिया, कनाड़ा और साइप्रस की ऐतिहासिक यात्रा सम्पन्न कर नई दिल्ली के लिए रवाना हो गए हैं। यात्रा के अंतिम चरण में क्रोएशिया में श्री मोदी ने क्रोएशिया के प्रधानमंत्री आंद्रेज प्लेंकोविच के साथ प्रतिनिधिमंडल स्तर की वार्ता की इसमें वैश्विक शांति, लोकतांत्रिक मूल्यों तथा व्यापार, प्रौद्योगिकी और संस्कृति के क्षेत्र में सहयोग बढाने की प्रतिबद्धता पर बल दिया गया।
प्रधानमंत्री ने संघर्षों के शांतिपूर्ण समाधान की वकालत करते हुए कहा कि यूरोप हो या एशिया, युद्ध से समाधान नहीं मिल सकता है। उन्होंने कहा कि बातचीत और कूटनीति ही आगे बढ़ने के लिए एकमात्र व्यवहारिक मार्ग हैं। प्रधानमंत्री ने आतंकवाद की निंदा की।
श्री मोदी ने बताया कि क्रोएशिया के साथ कई क्षेत्रों में द्विपक्षीय व्यापार का विस्तार करने का फैसला किया गया।
प्रधानमंत्री ने जहाज निर्माण, साइबर सुरक्षा और रक्षा क्षेत्र में बढते सहयोग पर बल दिया। श्री मोदी ने कहा कि संयुक्त प्रशिक्षण, सैन्य अभ्यास और उद्योग स्तरीय साझेदारी के लिए दीर्घावधि रक्षा सहयोग योजना बनाई जाएगी। दोनों देशों ने चार समझौता ज्ञापनों पर हस्ताक्षर किए। इसमें कृषि और संबद्ध क्षेत्रों, सांस्कृतिक आदान-प्रदान, विज्ञान, शिक्षा और युवा मंत्रालय के बीच सहयोग और ज़ाग्रेब विश्वविद्यालय में हिंदी पीठ की स्थापना के समझौते शामिल हैं।
प्रधानमंत्री ने क्रोएशिया में योग की बढ़ती लोकप्रियता की भी सराहना की। उन्होंने विश्वास प्रकट किया कि 21 जून को अंतरराष्ट्रीय योग दिवस पूरे देश में उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाएगा। श्री मोदी इस यात्रा को ऐतिहासिक क्षण बताया, जो शांति, प्रगति और समृद्धि के लिए साझा मूल्यों और पारस्परिक आकांक्षाओं के आधार पर भारत-क्रोएशिया सहयोग में नया अध्याय खोलती है।

Israel-Iran conflict has intensified dramatically with Israeli forces conducting three waves of airstrikes across Iran and Iranian authorities reporting mounting casualties from the sustained bombardment.

“On Wednesday, Israel launched its most extensive military operation against Iran since the conflict began, carrying out airstrikes in three waves across the day. The first wave, overnight, struck around 40 targets in the Tehran area , including centrifuge manufacturing sites and anti-tank missile production facilities. By afternoon, a second series of strikes hit 20 additional locations, focusing on three major missile production centers. The evening assault targeted surface-to-surface missile launch and storage sites in western Iran. The sustained bombardment has triggered a mass exodus from Tehran and other Iranian cities. Thousands are fleeing, with reports of widespread panic and heavy congestion along evacuation routes. Iranian authorities and human rights groups now estimate at least 585 people have been killed and over 1,300 injured since the start of hostilities , many of them civilians. Infrastructure across the region is reeling. Airport closures and travel restrictions continue to disrupt civilian movement and affect foreign nationals throughout West Asia. Flight carrying 110 Indian students evacuated from northern Iran landed in New Delhi in the wee hours today. India has launched Operation Sindhu to evacuate its nationals from Iran in view of deteriorating situation due to ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. As a first step, the Indian Embassy in Tehran evacuated the 110 Indian students from northern Iran, assisting them in safely crossing over into Armenia on the 17th of this month. The students traveled by road to the Armenian capital, Yerevan, under the supervision of Indian Missions in Iran and Armenia. These students departed from Yerevan on a special flight last afternoon and reached New Delhi this morning. The External Affairs Ministry has said in a statement that the Indian government is grateful to the governments of Iran and Armenia for the facilitation of the smooth evacuation process.
Talking to Akashvani News, Amaan Nazar, an Indian student studying MBBS in Tehran, shared his experience after being evacuated amidst security challenges in Iran.
Zehran Butt from Jammu and Kashmir, who is also pursuing MBBS, expressed his gratitude to the government of India.
Another student from J&K, T Islam praised the arrangements made by External Affairs Ministry in evacuating them.
India accords highest priority to the safety and security of Indian nationals abroad. As part of the ongoing operation, the Indian Embassy in Iran has been assisting large numbers of Indian nationals in moving from areas with increased hostilities to relatively safer areas within the country and to subsequently evacuate them using the available and feasible options. Indian nationals in Iran have been advised to stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Tehran through its emergency helpline, and with the 24×7 Control Room established by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.

Chennai Metrowater will soon roll out an online booking facility to opt for larger capacity water tankers on a paid basis. This service is being launched for the first time, targeting the water needs of residents in high rise buildings, especially in the merged areas. The water agency has hired about 450 vehicles of various capacities to operate between 3500 to 3800 trips every day both for street supply and on payment. Of this nearly 1500 trips are booked through Dial for water service. In a few days the water agency would add 12 kilo litre and 16 Kl capacity vehicles to its fleet to cater to the growing demand for bulk water supply.

The Tamilnadu Cyber Crime Branch has credited back 10.45 Crore Rupees from the month of January to May from Cyber criminal transactions. They booked several cases on online trading scam, digital arrest scam, Online Part time job scam and Cryptocurrency scam. The branch had received 4357 complaints during the said period. A total of 59 persons have been arrested on several cases pertaining to cyber crime . The Police department has also said that awareness rallies were held in various places. मुख्यमंत्री रेखा गुप्ता ने कल शालीमार बाग स्थित महर्षि आयुर्वेद हॉस्पिटल में नवनिर्मित इन-हाउस आयुर्वेदिक किचन सोमा का शुभारंभ किया। इस अवसर पर मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि दिल्ली में अब ऐसी कई रसोई खुल रही हैं जो पौष्टिक खानपान को बढावा दे रहे हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि शालीमार विधानसभा क्षेत्र में बनी इस रसोई में सभी व्यंजन बाजरे से तैयार किए जाते हैं। श्रीमती गुप्ता ने कहा कि संतुलित और स्वस्थ जीवन शैली को बढ़ावा देने में बाजरा, योग और वैकल्पिक चिकित्सा की भूमिका महत्वपूर्ण है। उन्होंने कहा कि योग और वैकल्पिक चिकित्सा के साथ-साथ बाजरा हमारी समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत का हिस्सा है।

The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board has achieved a Guinness book of world Record for the maximum number of pledges to conserve water. It mobilised 5.33 lakh people from March 21 and 28 to take a pledge on water conservation. In a simple function, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka D K Shivakumar accepted the World record certificate on behalf of the Board in Bengaluru yesterday. In his speech, the minister congratulated the Water Board for spreading the message of water conservation among the masses.
Speaking about the financial losses faced by the Board, Shivakumar said that the recent water hike will help reduce the losses and efforts will be made to clear about 500 crore rupees losses on a year to year basis. He regretted that about 35 percent of the property owners are not paying water bills regularly in the city. On providing Cauvery river water to two crore people in Bengaluru city, the minister said that the Government is planning to extend water supply to about 50 lakh people around the city. On Cauvery water VI stage, he informed that a detailed project report is getting ready. He also referred to the Delhi model of water supply where the drinking water piping system is separate from water for other purposes and added that the same must be replicated in Bengaluru.

महाराष्ट्र के स्कूली शिक्षा मंत्री दादा भुसे ने कल स्पष्ट किया कि हिंदी स्कूलों में स्वैच्छिक तीसरी भाषा बनी रहेगी, जबकि मराठी सभी माध्यमों में अनिवार्य बनी रहेगी। यह कदम 17 जून की देर रात जारी एक सरकारी आदेश के बाद उठाया गया है, जिसमें शुरू में कक्षा 1 से 5 तक हिंदी को अनिवार्य किया गया था, जिसका व्यापक विरोध हुआ था। 18 जून को आदेश में तेजी से संशोधन किया गया, जिसमें “अनिवार्य” को “आम तौर पर” में बदल दिया गया, जिससे लचीलापन आया। मंत्री भुसे ने कहा कि कक्षा 5 के बाद के छात्र अब हिंदी सहित किसी भी भारतीय भाषा को तीसरी भाषा के रूप में चुन सकते हैं, यदि प्रति कक्षा कम से कम 20 छात्र ऐसा अनुरोध करते हैं। छोटे समूहों के लिए, तीसरी भाषा ऑनलाइन पढ़ाई जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि अंग्रेजी माध्यम वाले सहित सभी स्कूलों में मराठी शिक्षा अनिवार्य है। मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने भी पुष्टि की कि संशोधित आदेश के अनुरूप हिंदी शिक्षण स्वैच्छिक होगा।

जाने-माने पर्यावरणविद्, वन्यजीव विशेषज्ञ और पद्मश्री मारुति चितमपल्ली का 93 वर्ष की आयु में महाराष्ट्र के सोलापुर में आयु संबंधी रोगों के कारण निधन हो गया। उन्हें ‘अरण्य ऋषि’ के नाम से भी जाना जाता था। उन्होंने अपना जीवन वन, वन्यजीव और साहित्य संरक्षण को समर्पित कर दिया। चितमपल्ली को इस वर्ष 30 अप्रैल को राष्ट्रपति ने पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया था।

Telangana State Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced that the state will approach the Supreme Court to stop the Godavari-Banakcharla link project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government. The project proposes a system to divert water from the Godavari River to the Krishna basin from Polavaram. Speaking to the media following an all-party MPs meeting, the Chief Minister said the state government will appoint legal experts who specialised in water agreements to fight the legal battle. He said the government will take all measures to protect the interests of Telangana.

In Telangana, Google opened its first Safety Engineering Centre in the Asia-Pacific region and the fourth globally, in Hyderabad yesterday. State Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy formally inaugurated the facility. The launch of the Google Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) follows the unveiling of the tech giant’s “Safety Charter for India’s AI-led Transformation” in Delhi on June 17. An official release stated that the GSEC will focus on protecting users from online fraud, securing enterprise and government infrastructure, and building responsible AI. Besides, it will also act as a strategic hub for developing safety solutions. Google spokesperson Gouri Juneja said, there will be dedicated teams for tech detection, fraud detection, and technologies using AI.

World Sickle Cell Awareness Day is observed every year on June 19 to raise awareness about sickle cell disease (SCD), a serious and lifelong blood disorder that affects millions of people around the world. The day is an opportunity to educate the public, support affected individuals, and advocate for better care and research.
The United Nations officially recognised World Sickle Cell Awareness Day in 2008, with the aim of improving understanding and reducing the stigma around the disease. Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder in which the red blood cells, which are normally round, become shaped like a sickle or crescent. These misshapen cells can block blood flow, causing pain, organ damage, infections, and other complications.
The disease is most common in parts of Africa, India, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and among people of African descent. In India, certain tribal communities are especially vulnerable. Early diagnosis and proper treatment, including newborn screening, regular check-ups, pain management, and access to medications, are vital for improving the quality of life of patients.

Ernst Boris Chain (born June 19, 1906, Berlin, Ger.—died Aug. 12, 1979, Mulrany, Ire.) was a German-born British biochemist who, with pathologist Howard Walter Florey, isolated and purified penicillin (which had been discovered in 1928 by Sir Alexander Fleming) and performed the first clinical trials of the antibiotic. For their pioneering work on penicillin, Chain, Florey, and Fleming shared the 1945 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine.
Ernst Boris Chain (1906–1979) was a German-born, British biochemist credited for the discovery of penicillin, along with Alexander Fleming and Howard Florey. For this breakthrough, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945, along with his colleagues. Penicillin, the first antibiotic, made many infections, from bothersome to life-threatening, treatable. Its discovery revolutionized the pharmaceutical industry.
Chain graduated in chemistry and physiology from the Friedrich Wilhelm University of Berlin and then engaged in research at the Institute of Pathology, Charité Hospital, Berlin (1930–33). Forced to flee Germany because of the anti-Semitic policies of Adolf Hitler, he went first to the University of Cambridge, working under Sir Frederick G. Hopkins, and then (1935) to the University of Oxford, where he worked with Florey on penicillin.

William Golding (19 September 1911 – 19 June 1993)
novelist, playwright, and poet. Best known for his debut novel Lord of the Flies (1954), Golding published another 12 volumes of fiction in his lifetime. In 1980, Golding was awarded the Booker Prize for Rites of Passage, the first novel in what became his sea trilogy, To the Ends of the Earth. He was awarded the 1983 Nobel Prize in Literature.
As a result of his contributions to literature, Golding was knighted in 1988. He was also a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. In 2008, The Times ranked Golding third on its list of “The 50 greatest British writers since 1945”.
Two other novels, Free Fall (1959) and The Spire (1964), also demonstrate Golding’s belief that “man produces evil as a bee produces honey.” Darkness Visible (1979) tells the story of a boy horribly burned in the London blitz during World War II. His later works include Rites of Passage (1980), which won the Booker McConnell Prize, and its sequels, Close Quarters (1987) and Fire Down Below (1989). Golding was knighted in 1988.

इस कहानी के लेखक हैं, पं. माधवराव सप्रे। आज उनकी जयंती है। कथा पत्रिका सारिका के संपादक रहते हुए कथाकार कमलेश्वर ने हिंदी की पहली कहानी के रूप में ‘एक टोकरी भर मिट्टी’ को प्रस्थापित किया था।
