The Hockey India Masters Cup for men and women kicks off today in Chennai. This 10-day tournament, hosted by the Tamil Nadu Hockey Unit, features men over 40 age group and women over 35. Twelve men’s teams and eight women’s teams are taking part in the event. There will be group matches followed by the knockout stage and the finals.
In the men’s opening game, Punjab will face Puducherry. The match will begin at 1:30 PM. This is the first edition of the tournament, providing a special platform for veteran hockey players in India.

Metro Rail’s driverless trains will undergo the first safety test next month. The Chennai Metro Rail needs two certifications from the RDSO and the other from the Commissioner of Rail Safety, before launching the services in December this year. A team of experts from RDSO will visit the city by the end of July and test a driverless train to evaluate the safety parameters, quality of ride, comfort, adherence to the technical specifications and alignment among others. The team of experts will carry out the trials on the viaduct between Poonamallee and Porur where CMRL will start services for commuters in December. If the tests are convincing then RDSO will issue a speed certification authorising the speed at which the train will be allowed to operate on this stretch.

A team of 15 mahouts and cavadies who are assistants to mahouts from two elephant camps – the Theppakadu camp in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and the Kozhikamuthi camp in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu is heading to the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang, Thailand, for a weeklong training program. They are accompanied by forest veterinarians, forest range officers and other officials.

Southern Railway has become the first zone in Indian Railways to complete 100 percent automatic block signalling on Golden Quadrilateral or Golden diagonal routes, covering a total of 275 kilometers. This includes the vital Chennai-Renigunta and Chennai-Arakkonam corridors. The final stretch Puttur to Pudi was commissioned on the 15th of this month completing the automation of the Chennai-Renigunta Section which spans over 33 kms and includes upgraded electronic interlocking at Tadaku station and modifications at Puttur, Pudi and Sri Venkata Perumal Rajupuram stations.

मुख्यमंत्री रेखा गुप्ता ने कल राजधानी में 33 आयुष्मान आरोग्य मंदिरों और 17 जन औषधि केन्द्रों का उद्घाटन किया।

The Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru Airport City Limited (BACL), and ANSR have announced the launch of District I, a Global Innovation Hub within BACL’s Business Park. Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) stated that the hub will boost deep-tech entrepreneurship, enterprise innovation, and the commercialisation of academic research.
By bringing together GCCs, IT firms, accelerators, startups, VCs, academia, and public institutions, District I aims to create a collaborative innovation ecosystem. With a focus on technologies like AI, quantum computing, blockchain, and CX, it will drive innovation in key sectors including aerospace, smart cities, retail, telecom, and defence.

Bengaluru leads with 30 per cent of planned hiring in tech and e-commerce startups for the first half of Financial Year 2026 (April–September), followed by Mumbai at 25 per cent and Chennai at 23 per cent, according to a report by staffing firm TeamLease. These cities remain key startup hubs due to their strong talent pool and mature ecosystems.
The report projects a Net Employment Change (NEC) of 6.9 per cent for the tech and e-commerce sectors during this period.

अब रुख करते हैं देश की आर्थिक राजधानी मुम्बई के समाचारों का।
हर किसी की ज़िंदगी में कुछ ऐसे पल आते हैं जब शब्द कम पड़ जाते हैं और तब संगीत के जरिए हम अपनी बात को, अपने एहसास को दिल से दिल तक पहुंचा सकते हैं। संगीत के महत्व को समझते हुए हर साल 21 जून को ‘विश्व संगीत दिवस’ मनाया जाता है।
इस दिन की शुरुआत 1982 में फ्रांस से हुई थी. वहां के संस्कृति मंत्री जैक लैंग और म्यूज़िक डायरेक्टर मौरिस फ्लुरेट ने ये सोचा कि साल में एक दिन ऐसा होना चाहिए जो संगीत के नाम हो और इसके लिए 21 जून का दिन तय किया गया। यह तारीख इसलिए चुनी गई क्योंकि इस दिन साल का सबसे लंबा दिन होता है जिसे ‘समर सोल्सटिस’ के नाम से जाना जाता है। इस मौके ने लोगों को म्यूजिक से जुड़ने का अवसर दिया. धीरे-धीरे यह उत्सव फ्रांस से निकलकर पूरी दुनिया में फैल गया. आज 120 से ज्यादा देश हर साल इस दिन को खास तरीके से मनाते हैं.
इस बीच, विश्व संगीत दिवस के अवसर पर, भारत का पहला रचनात्मक और सांस्कृतिक रेडियो महोत्सव तथा महाराष्ट्र आशा रेडियो पुरस्कार 21 जून को मुंबई में आयोजित किए जाएँगे। मुंबई में कल एक प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में इस कार्यक्रम के बारे में बताते हुए राज्य के सांस्कृतिक मामलों के मंत्री आशीष शेलार ने कहा कि रेडियो ने भारत की आज़ादी से लेकर महाराष्ट्र के गठन तक हर मील का पत्थर देखा है और यह कार्यक्रम राज्य की सांस्कृतिक विरासत में रेडियो के योगदान के लिए आभार प्रकट करने का अवसर है। महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस भी इस कार्यक्रम में शामिल होंगे और रेडियो उद्योग में उत्कृष्टता को मान्यता देते हुए 12 पुरस्कार प्रदान करेंगे।

The Telangana State government has called for an all-party meeting with Members of Parliament from Telangana, including those from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, to discuss the Banakacharla project. This meeting is scheduled to take place this afternoon at the state Secretariat. The State government has invited Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, as well as MPs from the BJP, BRS, and AIMIM.

अब रुख करते हैं देश की सांस्कृतिक राजधानी कोलकाता के समाचारों का।
कोलकाता में नगर निगम डिजिटाइजेशन को बढ़ावा दे रहा है और इसी कड़ी में कोलकाता नगर निगम (केएमसी) ने डिजिटल ग्राउंड वाटर लाइन मैप प्रकाशित किया है। पहले चरण में आठ नगरों के अंतर्गत 65 वार्डों को कवर किया गया है। विभाग ने 52 वार्डों के डिजिटल भूजल मानचित्र को मंजूरी दे दी है। इसका उद्देश्य जलापूर्ति लाइनें बिछाने के लिए सड़कों की बार-बार खुदाई को रोकना है।

राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में आज मौसम की बात करे तो यहां कल तो बारिश हुई ही आज के लिए ऑरेंज अलर्ट जारी किया गया है। आज भी राजधानी में मौसम विभाग ने आंधी के साथ तेज बारिश का अनुमान व्यक्त किया है। दिल्ली का अधिकतम तापमान 36 डिग्री रहेगा जबकि न्यूनतम तापमान 28 डिग्री सेल्सियस दर्ज किया गया।
मुम्बई में भी आज बादल छाए रहेंगे तथा रूक-रूककर बरिश होने की संभावना है। आज का न्यूनतम तापमान 26 डिग्री दर्ज किया गया जबकि अधिकतम तापमान 31 डिग्री सेल्सियस रहने की संभावना है ।
कोलकाता की बात करे तो आज के लिए वहां भी ऑरेंज अलर्ट जारी किया गया है। आज कोलकाता में आंधी के साथ भारी वर्षा का अनुमान व्यक्त किया गया है। न्यूनतम तापमान 23 डिग्री दर्ज किया गया वहीं आज का अधिकतम तापमान 28 डिग्री सेल्सियस रहने की संभावना है।

International Day for Countering Hate Speech is being observed today globally. The day reminds us that Hate Speech is a human issue. Creating safe and inclusive spaces, from community meetings to online chat groups, means making sure the voices that are usually ignored are heard and included. The theme for this year is – “Hate Speech and Artificial Intelligence”. UN Secretary General António Guterres has said this year’s theme reminds us, hate speech travels faster and farther than ever, amplified by Artificial Intelligence.

Gastronomy is sometimes called the art of food. It can also refer to a style of cooking from a particular region. In other words, gastronomy often refers to local food and cuisine. Sustainability is the idea that something (e.g. agriculture, fishing or even preparation of food) is done in a way that is not wasteful of our natural resources and can be continued into the future without being detrimental to our environment or health.
Sustainable gastronomy, therefore, means cuisine that takes into account where the ingredients are from, how the food is grown and how it gets to our markets and eventually to our plates.
Today also marks the Sustainable Gastronomy Day – that promotes using clean energy for cooking to reduce food waste and eating locally-grown products. There are different ways for to preserve ecosystems and culinary traditions. The UN General Assembly adopted its resolution in December, 2016 and designated 18th of June as an international observance, Sustainable Gastronomy Day. The decision acknowledges gastronomy as a cultural expression related to the natural and cultural diversity of the world.

हम सब जानते हैं कि भारत को 15 अगस्त 1947 को ब्रिटिश हुकुमत से आजादी मिली, लेकिन आजाद भारत का एक हिस्सा ऐसा भी था जहां आजादी के बाद भी कई बरस तक विदेशियों का शासन रहा और इसे आजाद होने में 14 बरस और लगे। यह हिस्सा था देश का तटीय क्षेत्र गोवा, जो उस समय पुर्तगालियों के कब्जे में था। दरअसल 1946 में जब यह साफ हो गया कि अंग्रेज अब भारत में अधिक समय तक अपना शासन नहीं चला पाएंगे तब यही माना जा रहा था कि अंग्रेजों के साथ-साथ पुर्तगाली भी गोवा छोड़कर चले जायेंगे। स्वतंत्रता सेनानी राममनोहर लोहिया लोहिया ने 18 जून, 1946 को गोवा पहुंचकर पुर्तगालियों के खिलाफ आंदोलन शुरू किया। इस आंदोलन में हजारों गोवावासी शामिल हुए। गोवा की मुक्ति के लिये एक लम्बा आन्दोलन चला। अन्ततः 19 दिसम्बर 1961 को भारतीय सेना ने यहाँ आक्रमण कर इस क्षेत्र को पुर्तग़ाली आधिपत्य से मुक्त करवाया और गोवा को भारत में शामिल कर लिया गया।

नसीम बानो (अंग्रेज़ी: Naseem Bano; जन्म- 4 जुलाई, 1916; मृत्य- 18 जून, 2002)
आज ही के दिन इस दुनिया को अलविदा कहा ‘भारतीय सिनेमा’ में चालीस के दशक की हिन्दी फ़िल्मों की जानी मानी अभिनेत्री नसीम बानो ने । भारतीय सिने जगत् में अपनी इस अभिनेत्री को उसकी ख़ूबसूरती के लिए “ब्यूटी क्वीन” कहा जाता था। प्रसिद्ध अभिनेत्री सायरा बानो, नसीम बानो की ही पुत्री हैं। नसीम बानो का जन्म 4 जुलाई, 1916 ई. को हुआ था।
सिनेमा जगत् में नसीब बानो का प्रवेश संयोगवश हुआ था। एक बार नसीम बानो अपनी स्कूल की छुटियों के दौरान अपनी माँ के साथ फ़िल्म ‘सिल्वर किंग’ की शूटिंग देखने गयीं। फ़िल्म की शूटिंग देखकर नसीम बानो ने निश्चय किया कि वह अभिनेत्री के रूप में अपना सिने करियर बनायेंगी।
Milkha Singh (20 November 1929 – 18 June 2021)
“The Flying Sikh”, was an Indian track and field sprinter who was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army. He is the only athlete to win gold at 400 metres at the Asian Games as well as the Commonwealth Games. He has won gold medals in the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games. He represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome and the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Singh was awarded the Padma Shri in 1959, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition of his sporting achievements.
Milkha Singh will forever be remembered as one of the greatest Indian athletes in our country’s history. वे भारत के ऐसे प्रसिद्ध धावक थे जिन्हें लोग फ्लाइंग सिक्ख के नाम से जानते हैं। सन 1956 में मेलबर्न में आयोजित हुए ओलंपिक खेलों में उन्होंने पहली बार 200 मीटर और 400 मीटर की रेस में भाग लिया था। इसके बाद उसी साल तोक्यो में आयोजित हुए एशियाई खेलों में उन्होंने 200 मीटर और 400 मीटर की दौड़ में भी स्वर्ण पदक अपने नाम किया। साल 1958 में ही इंग्लैंड के कार्डिफ में आयोजित राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में मिलखा सिंह ने एक बार फिर अपनी प्रतिभा का लोहा मनवाते हुए 400 मीटर की रेस में स्वर्ण पदक देश के नाम किया। आज़ाद भारत में कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स में भारत को स्वर्ण पदक दिलाने वाले वे पहले भारतीय थे। 1960 में रोम में आयोजित ओलंपिक खेलों में उन्होंने 400 मीटर की रेस में शानदार प्रदर्शन किया लेकिन अंतिम पलों में वे जर्मनी के एथलीट कार्ल कूफमैन से सेकेंड के सौवें हिस्से से पिछड़ गए और कांस्य पदक जीतने से मामूली अंतर से चूक गए। इस दौरान उन्होंने इस रेस में पूर्व ओलंपिक कीर्तिमान भी तोड़ा और 400 मीटर की दौड़ 45 दशमलव सात तीन सेकेंड में पूरी कर नेशनल रिकॉर्ड भी बनाया। 400 मीटर की रेस में उनका ये रिकॉर्ड 40 साल बाद जाकर टूटा। मिलखा सिंह ने ओलिंपिक में अपने शानदार प्रदर्शन से देश के करोड़ों युवाओं को खेल के प्रति प्रेरित किया।

उस्ताद अली अकबर ख़ाँ ने पश्चिमी दुनिया के श्रोताओं के सामने भारतीय संगीत को बहुत ही खूबसूरती से पेश किया । इनके संगीत की जड़ें भारतीय संगीत की हिंदुस्तानी (उत्तरी) परंपरा में जमी थीं।
उस्ताद अली अकबर ख़ाँ ने अपनी पहली प्रस्तुति लगभग 13 वर्ष की आयु में दी। 22 वर्ष की आयु में वे जोधपुर राज्य के दरबारी संगीतकार बन गए। 1956 में इन्होंने कोलकाता में अली अकबर संगीत महाविद्यालय की स्थापना की।
पाँच दशकों तक उन्होंने दुनिया में भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत का परचम लहराया और खासतौर से भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत को पश्चिमी दुनिया में प्रतिष्ठित करने में उनका विशेष योगदान था।
कला के क्षेत्र में उनके उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए उस्ताद अली अकबर ख़ाँ को भारत सरकार द्वारा 1988 में पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानित किया गया था 1997में संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका का कला के क्षेत्र में सबसे बड़ा सम्मान नेशनल हैरिटेज फ़ेलोशिप दी गई। 1991 में उन्हें मैकआर्थर जीनियस ग्रांट से सम्मानित किया गया।
