In Tripura, Makar Sankranti festivities began today with traditional fervour and gaiety. People, all across the state, particularly in rural areas are celebrating Makar Sankranti with a holy dip in rivers and waterbodies in the wee hours, Surya Pranam and thereafter savouring feast with newly produced rice grains.
In Kerala, thousands of Ayyappa devotees will witness the ‘Makaravilakku’ at Sabarimala Hill Shrine today. On the day of Makaravilakku, an annual festival that falls on Makar Sankranti day, it is believed that Lord Ayyappa asserts himself as a holy light to bless his devotees. The Makarasamkrama Pooja will take place today. Over 1.5 lakh devotees are expected to take part in the ceremony and witness makara jyothi, the holy light.

Odisha has become the 34th State and Union Territory to implement Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Under this scheme, health cover of five lakh rupees per year is provided for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization of every family. National Health Authority and Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Odisha signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi yesterday in this regard. Speaking on the occasion, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that over eight crore hospitalization has been recorded under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the people of Odisha over the implementation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that the scheme will ensure the highest-quality healthcare at affordable rates. He noted that the scheme will particularly benefit the Nari Shakti and the elderly of Odisha.

National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the UGC NET December 2024 exam which was scheduled for tomorrow. In a statement, the NTA said, it has received representations to postpone the UGC NET examination on account of Pongal, Makar Sankranti and other festivals on 15th January. The new date of exam will be announced later. NTA further said that the examination scheduled on 16th January will be conducted as per earlier schedule.

In Indian Super League (ISL) Football, Kerala Blasters Football Club secured a 3-2 victory over Odisha Football Club in Kochi, last night. The Blasters overturned a 1-0 deficit with three goals in the final 30 minutes.
Jerry Mawihmingthanga gave Odisha an early lead, converting a header from Dori in the fourth minute. Odisha held firm defensively until Kwame Peprah equalized in the 60th minute, capitalizing on Korou Singh’s creative through ball.
Jesus Jimenez gave Kerala the lead in the 73rd minute, assisted by Sadaoui, but Odisha equalized through Dori in the 80th minute after a rebound. Odisha’s hopes were dented when Carlos Delgado was sent off in the 83rd minute for a second yellow card.
Sadaoui sealed the win in the fifth minute of injury time with a powerful strike from the left, taking Kerala to eighth place with 20 points from 16 matches.

दिल्ली शिक्षा निदेशालय ने शैक्षणिक सत्र 2025-26 के लिए कक्षा 6 से 9 में नॉन-प्लैन दाखिलों के लिए कार्यक्रम की घोषणा की है। इसके लिए पंजीकरण प्रक्रिया पहली अप्रैल 2025 से शुरू होगी। निदेशालय ने इसके लिए दिशा-निर्देश जारी कर दी है। दाखिले के लिए शिक्षा निदेशालय की आधिकारिक वेबसाइट पर जाकर पंजीकरण करना होगा। शिक्षा निदेशालय के निर्देशों के अनुसार एमसीडी स्कूलों से पांचवीं पास और सरकारी व सहायता प्राप्त स्कूलों से 8वीं पास छात्रों को कक्षा 6 और 9 में दाखिला मिलेगा। निदेशालय ने बताया कि दाखिला संबंधी अधिक जानकारी के लिए अभिभावक निदेशालय की आधिकारिक वेबसाइट पर जाकर जारी नोटिफिकेशन को देख सकते हैं।

मुनव्वर राणा (जन्म- 26 नवम्बर, 1952; मृत्यु- 14 जनवरी, 2024) भारतीय उर्दू कवि थे। उनकी कविता ‘शहदबा’ के लिए उन्हें साल 2014 में ‘साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया था। मुनव्वर राणा ने उर्दू और अवधी में लिखा, लेकिन फ़ारसी और अरबी शब्दावली से परहेज किया जो उर्दू को हिंदी से अलग करती है। यह उनकी कविता को भारतीय दर्शकों के लिए सुलभ बनाता है और गैर-उर्दू क्षेत्रों में आयोजित कवि सम्मेलनों में उनकी लोकप्रियता को बताता है। मुनव्वर राणा मां पर लिखी शायरियों को लेकर काफी मशहूर थे। माना जाता है कि मां के लिए शेर लिखने में उनको कोई मात नहीं दे सका।

कैफी आज़मी एक उर्दू के शायर थे। कैफी का असली नाम अख्तर हुसैन रिजवी था। उत्तर प्रदेश के आजमगढ़ जिले के छोटे से गांव मिजवां में 14 जनवरी 1919 में जन्मे। गांव के सिधेसाधे माहौल में कविताएं पढ़ने का शौक लगा। भाइयों ने प्रोत्साहित किया तो खुद भी लिखने लगे और अपने भाइयो को भी बताना शुरू करे। 11 साल की उम्र में उन्होंने अपनी पहली गज़ल लिखी। किशोर होते-होते मुशायरे में शामिल होने लगे। वर्ष 1936 में साम्यवादी विचारधारा से प्रभावित हुए।
मई 1947 में इनका विवाह शौकत से हुआ। आर्थिक रूप से संपन्न और साहित्यिक संस्कारों वाली शौकत को कैफी के लेखन ने प्रभावित थीं। उनके यहां एक बेटी और एक बेटे का जन्म हुआ, जिनका नाम शबाना और बाबा है। शबाना आज़मी हिंदी फिल्मों की एक अज़ीम अदाकारा बनीं। क़ैफ़ी आज़मी को राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार के अलावा कई बार फिल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड भी मिला। 1974 में भारत सरकार ने उन्हें पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया।
