Across Nepal, Buddha Purnima is being celebrated today. It’s a public holiday in Nepal. The day is marked by massive pilgrimages to Lumbini, which is the birthplace of Buddha and major stupas like Namo Buddhaye, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath, with prayers, lightings, charity, and white-clothed processions. In Kathmandu valley as well as other cities, cultural programmes and symposiums on Buddha teachings were organised, and a community procession with traditional music was taken out to mark Buddha Purnima.
