BJP condemns Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s remarks on Women’s Reservation Bill

BJP MP Ravishankar Prasad today condemned Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi over her remarks against the BJP on the Women’s Reservation Bill. Briefing the media in New Delhi, Mr Prasad said that no revision of seats in the Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha is possible without delimitation. He added that since conducting a census takes considerable time, it was stated that delimitation can be carried out on the basis of the last published census.

BJP leader Smriti Irani also accused the Congress party of destroying the expectations of the women of the country. She said that women will remember that under the NDA government, the first gender budget framework was introduced. Ms Irani added that they will also remember that during the Congress regime, 25 crore women were denied the support to open bank accounts and 11 crore women were deprived of toilets.

Earlier in the day, the Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill yesterday was a very significant victory. Addressing the media in New Delhi, the Congress leader asserted that the government’s attempt to alter the federal structure and weaken democracy was stopped. She also asked the ruling NDA government to bring back the bill that was passed unanimously in 2023, supported by all parties and implement it now. Ms Vadra also alleged that through delimitation based on the 2011 Census and using women’s reservation, the BJP aimed to redraw constituencies to their advantage.
