Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will seek a vote of confidence in the State Assembly today during a special one-day session. According to an official notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the session will commence at 11 a.m., during which the Chief Minister will move the confidence motion.
All ministers and legislators have been asked by their respective parties to remain present in the House for the proceedings. Samrat Choudhary took oath as Chief Minister on April 15, following which he is required to seek a vote of confidence in the State Assembly. It is a constitutional obligation for a new government to prove its majority on the floor of the House.
In the 243-member Bihar Assembly, the strength of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) stands at 201, following the resignation of Bankipur MLA Nitin Nabin. This is well above the majority mark of 122, making it likely for the Chief Minister to secure the trust vote comfortably.
