Benchmark domestic equity indices ended today’s session marginally lower. The Sensex dropped 123 points or 0.16 per cent, to close at 77, 989, and the Nifty dipped 35 points or 0.14 per cent, to settle at 24,197. However, In the broader market on the National Stock Exchange, the Mid-cap 100 rose over 0.6 per cent, while the Small-cap 100 climbed 0.9 per cent.
In the Sensex pack, shares of 16 out of 30 companies logged losses. Among top underperformers, HDFC Bank slumped over 1.7 per cent, Titan lost almost one and a half per cent, and Mahindra and Mahindra fell by one per cent. In contrast, Trent jumped 2.8 per cent, Eternal climbed over two and a half per cent, and Adani Ports rose 2.3 per cent.
Among the sectoral indices at the BSE, 15 out of 25 sectors registered an upward move. Among the gainers, Metal surged one and a half per cent, Utilities rose nearly 1.4 per cent, and Industrials advanced almost 1.2 per cent. On the other hand, Top 10 Banks lost 0.7 per cent, Private Bank fell about 0.6 per cent and Hospitals dipped half a per cent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive, as shares of 2,808 companies advanced, 1,539 declined, and 147 remained unchanged.
