Amid the ongoing conflict and tensions in West Asia, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu urged people to follow the seven austerity measures announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister said the evolving global situation is placing multiple economic pressures on the country and stressed that citizens, along with governments, must act responsibly during such challenging times. Mr. Naidu said the State Government would soon come out with its own action plan in line with the Prime Minister’s appeal. He stated that discussions are underway and a detailed announcement would be made within the next couple of days.
Calling for fuel conservation, the Chief Minister urged people to reduce the use of petrol and diesel, saying it would help save valuable foreign exchange reserves. He also highlighted the growing importance of work-from-home systems, noting that technology has made remote working a practical reality across the world. Similar measures, he said, may also be adopted within government departments wherever feasible.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to cut down unnecessary expenditure at all levels. Referring to large political convoys, he remarked that travelling with excessive convoy vehicles has become a trend and said public representatives should lead by example by reducing convoy sizes and limiting security arrangements wherever possible. Supporting the Prime Minister’s suggestion to cut down on foreign travel, Mr. Naidu encouraged people to explore tourist destinations within India and Andhra Pradesh instead of travelling abroad.
Emphasising collective responsibility, the Chief Minister called on citizens to embrace the spirit of “My Nation, My Responsibility” and contribute towards national interest during difficult times. He also urged people to reconsider non-essential spending, including gold purchases, in line with the Prime Minister’s broader call for austerity and economic discipline.
