Andhra Pradesh CM unveils series of short awareness films on cyber and financial crimes

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unveiled a series of short awareness films produced by Visakhapatnam City Police to educate the public about cyber and financial crimes. The films were screened during a conference of district collectors and superintendents of police at the state secretariat in Amaravati the previous day. The Visakhapatnam police have produced 24 short films explaining the modus operandi of 24 different types of cyber and financial crimes, including digital arrest scams, to create public awareness.

The Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner informed the Chief Minister that people across the country have lost around 30,211 crore rupees to cyber and financial frauds. He said that in 2024, the state recorded 66,507 complaints related to cyber and financial crimes, with losses amounting to 974.12 crore rupees. In 2025, 64,048 complaints were reported, and the losses were estimated at 828 crore rupees. In Visakhapatnam alone, cyber fraud losses since 2019 have reached about 304 crore rupees, he added.

Mr Bagchi said the short films were produced to improve public awareness and help people avoid falling victim to such crimes. The Chief Minister commended the effort to use visual campaigns for public education. Home Minister V. Anitha, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta and Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand Sai Prasad, along with other senior officials, were present.
