To mark 90 years of Akashvani’s inception, the Jalandhar station of the national public broadcaster organised a Walkathon today, celebrating the rich legacy of radio broadcasting in the country.
Hundreds of listeners, staff members, anchors and presenters enthusiastically participated in the event. A similar Walkathon was also organised at the Patiala station.
In Jalandhar, the Walkathon was flagged off by Akashvani Punjab Cluster Head and Deputy Director General Ranjeet Meena and DDG of Jalandhar Doordarshan R L Jarangal, along with senior News and Programme officials.
The event was connected live with the Akashvani FM studio, where listeners, former employees and participants shared their experiences on air.
The atmosphere turned vibrant as young anchors and presenters danced to popular songs played during the live broadcast.
Living up to its motto “Bahujan Hitaya, Bahujan Sukhaya” – for the welfare and happiness of all – Akashvani continues to inform, educate and entertain the nation through its vast network of 591 stations, reaching nearly 98 per cent of the country’s population.
On June 8, 1936, the Indian State Broadcasting Service was renamed All India Radio, later adopting the name Akashvani in 1956.
