Heavy rains in the catchment areas of the Godavari River have led to an increase in the inflow of floodwater in the Gowthami branch near Yanam region. Irrigation Department officials informed that about ten lakh cusecs of water have been discharged into the Bay of Bengal today.
The first flood warning has been issued at the Dowleswaram barrage. Water started entering some households in flood-prone areas like Francetippa. Talking to Akashvani, Yanam Regional Administrator R. Munisamy said that all precautionary measures have been taken by the government to ensure the safety of people and to minimise damage in vulnerable areas.
