West Bengal Police unable to provide complete list of criminal cases against opposition leader

The West Bengal Police failed to provide a complete list of criminal cases registered against the Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, at various police stations today. Following this, the Calcutta High Court directed the state to submit the comprehensive list by March 27 at 1:00 PM.

Suvendu Adhikari had moved the court on March 17 seeking these details. During the hearing, his counsel informed the court that while the Kolkata Police Commissioner confirmed 7 cases within their jurisdiction, the West Bengal Police have yet to disclose the number of cases pending in other districts. Adhikari’s legal team emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating that he intends to file nominations for both the Bhawanipur and Nandigram assembly constituencies, and the lack of this information could hinder the process.
Questioning the state’s request for more time, Justice Saugata Bhattacharya asked why the state police could not provide the data if the Kolkata Police had already done so. The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 27, where the West Bengal Police must present the full list of cases against the opposition leader.
