Over 16 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the first two hours of repolling in 15 booths across two assembly constituencies in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. Polling is underway in 11 booths of Magrahat Paschim and four booths of Diamond Harbour, where the Election Commission of India ordered repoll following reports of electoral malpractices.
An official said voting began at 7 AM and will continue till 6 PM. By 9 AM, voter turnout stood at 16.23 per cent. Magrahat Paschim recorded 16.68 per cent turnout, while Diamond Harbour reported 15.83 per cent. The official said, polling has been peaceful so far, with no reports of violence or unrest from either constituency.
Voting in these constituencies was earlier held during the second phase of the state elections on April 29.
The West Bengal assembly elections were held in two phases, April 23 and April 29, amid unprecedented security arrangements. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.
