In West Bengal, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state is confident that the special intensive revision (SIR) process of the voter list will be completed within the time frame of 14th February, set by the Election Commission. In the weekly report sent to the Election Commission, the detailed accounts of all incidents related to the SIR hearings were submitted. After reviewing that report, the Commission summoned the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, to Delhi urgently, which was followed by a long meeting.
Commission sources said that the discussions revolved around ensuring smooth implementation of the SIR process in the state and organising free and fair elections. Security arrangements, booth infrastructure, and management procedures for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections were also discussed. Special monitoring of the ongoing process will begin today, which will be directly supervised by Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal himself.
