The new state government started its work today. The Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, today chaired the cabinet meeting and held administrative and law and order meetings at the state secretariat, Nabanna.
Departments have been distributed among the five ministers of the government of West Bengal today. They took off on 9th May along with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. Agnimitra Paul has been given Women, Child Development and Social Welfare; Dilip Ghosh got Panchayat & Rural Development; Food and Supplies has been assigned to Ashok Kirtania; Khudiram Tudu was assigned the Tribal Development department; and the North Bengal Development department has been given to Nisith Pramanik. These ministers have also been distributed other portfolios. The Chief Minister will look after the rest of the departments.
In a significant development, Manoj Agarwal has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of the state government. Apart from this, several transfers have been made today. Mr Agarwal is currently discharging his duty as the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal. In a major development, several central government schemes, including Ayushman Bharat, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Beti Bachao Beti Padao, have been given the nod to be implemented in West Bengal. Earlier, these schemes were not implemented by the government of West Bengal under the Trinamool Congress. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari today informed the media that within 45 days, lands will be given to the Border Security Force for fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The previous government under the TMC rule has not transferred the requisite land even after receiving funds from the central government. The new state government also informed that no running welfare state government scheme will be stopped by the new government of West Bengal.
