WAVES Summit: MoS Dr. L. Murugan Unveils White Paper, Aims for Top 5 Global Live Events Destination by 2030

Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L. Murugan today unveiled India’s ‘Live Events Economy: A Strategic Growth Imperative’, a first-of-its-kind white paper during the WAVES summit in Mumbai. The White Paper presents a comprehensive analysis of India’s rapidly expanding live entertainment industry, highlighting emerging trends, growth trajectories, and strategic recommendations for the sector’s continued evolution.

The report highlights that India’s organised live events segment has expanded by 15 per cent, generating an estimated incremental 13 billion rupees in revenue in 2024. This marks one of the highest growth rates within India’s broader media and entertainment industry. The report highlights that India aims to firmly establish itself among the world’s top five live entertainment destinations by 2030. It also highlights that event tourism has surged dramatically, with nearly half a million fans travelling between cities specifically to attend live music events.

India’s live events landscape is undergoing a transformation from a fragmented sector to a structured and influential pillar of the country’s cultural and creative economy. Dr Murugan also released the Statistical Handbook on the Media and Entertainment Sector 2024-25. Secretary of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Sanjay Jaju, was also present on the occasion.
