In Haryana, voting is underway for two Rajya Sabha seats. There are three candidates in fray one candidate each from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress, along with one independent candidate. BJP is supporting Independent candidate. BJP has fielded former MP Sanjay Bhatia while Congress nominated Karamvir Boudh in the election and Satish Nandal is contesting as an independent candidate. Chief Minister Nayab Saini cast the first vote.
Congress MLAs travelled from Kasauli to Chandigarh to participate in the polling. They were taken to Himachal Pradesh on Friday. Party insiders said the move was aimed at keeping the flock together and eliminating any risk of cross-voting. Meanwhile, Congress leader and MP Varun Chaudhary claimed that the BJP had telephoned the MLAs. Congress holds 37 seats and needs 31 votes to send its candidate.
