Polling for local body elections in Gujarat is going on in a peaceful atmosphere on Sunday. The Election Commission has also made special arrangements at the polling stations.
“Voting for the elections to various local bodies is going on peacefully in Gujarat today. Voting began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. While the counting of votes will be held on Tuesday. 13.81 percent voting has been reported till 11 am for the elections to Junagadh Municipal Corporation. According to the figures released by the State Election Commission so far, 20 percent voting has been done in 66 municipalities. In addition, voting is being done enthusiastically for the mid-term and by-elections of 3 taluka panchayats, as well as various local bodies. Long queues of voters were seen at the polling stations since morning. The state election system has also made special arrangements for the elderly and disabled voters. As a result, the enthusiasm for voting is being seen among the voters. A total of 5084 candidates are contesting the elections to local bodies. 170 Out of the 2178 local body seats held today, 213 seats have already been declared uncontested. To ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process, tight security arrangements have been made. Over 10,000 police personnel have been deployed across the region to maintain law and order during the elections.
