Voting concludes in Jharkhand’s Ghatshila Assembly by-election

In Jharkhand, voting for the Ghatshila Assembly by-election was completed smoothly across 300 polling centres today. Voter turnout for the by-poll remained around 73.88 percent. Voting began at 7 am in the morning and ended at 5 pm.

Chief Election Officer of Jharkhand K Ravi Kumar told Akashvani News that the voter turnout for the Ghatshila Assembly seat at the close of today’s vote timings is 73.88 percent, but the end poll-percent is expected to rise due to long voter queues past the official close hours. He said that the end poll percentage shall be shared tomorrow by noon with the media.

Counting of votes will be done on November 14.

The by-poll for the Ghatshila Assembly seat was necessitated following the death of Education Minister and JMM MLA Ramdas Soren. The bye-election witnesses a close fight between Ramdas’s son Somesh Soren from JMM and former Chief Minister Champai Soren’s son Babulal Soren from NDA. A total of 13 candidates are in the fray for the assembly seat.
