Voting to elect the new leadership of the CPN-UML concluded early Thursday. 2,227 convention delegates cast their ballots, while 36 were absent. CPN UML party will elect 301 central committee members and 19 office bearers. According to the election commission body of UML, the results may be shared by 10:30 am on Thursday if there are no complications. Voting had started on Wednesday at 9 am and continued overnight.
Earlier, voting had been postponed from Tuesday evening due to technical issues. Delays also occurred on Wednesday morning after party chair KP Sharma Oli arrived late at the polling station. A total of 80 electronic machines were used at Bhrikutimandap. Despite the use of an electronic voting Machine, each delegate took half an hour to vote for a long list of contestants. Today’s result will reflect public sentiments about the leadership of UML, whether confidence continues with ousted PM K P Sharma Oli or Ishwar Pokharel will become the new face of UML.
