Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala has risen to the 83rd position globally in container handling, reflecting the rapid scale-up of India’s newest deep water transshipment hub. The port recorded its highest-ever monthly throughput of 123,092 TEUs in January, while handling a record 62 vessels during the month. It also achieved a Gross Crane Rate of 30.12 container moves per hour, a performance benchmark considered globally competitive. Operational for about one year, Vizhinjam has so far handled 740 vessels and 1.57 million TEUs.
