Violence against civilians continues unabated across Balochistan: HRCB

In Pakistan, as violence against civilians continues unabated across Balochistan, leading human rights organisations have brought to light the extrajudicial killing of a man and the enforced disappearances of two women by Pakistani forces. The Human Rights Council of Balochistan (HRCB) mentioned that Aamir Noor, a resident of the Tump region of Kech district, was shot dead by a Pakistan-backed death squad on April 28 while travelling with his wife and sister to Karachi for medical treatment. The Baloch Women Forum has also expressed grave concern over the continued reports of enforced disappearances of women across Balochistan, noting that the incidents have fuelled fear, uncertainty and distress among civilians.

Meanwhile, a leading international human rights organisation has called on Pakistani authorities to release human rights defenders Hanif Pashteen and Noor Ullah Tareen and to immediately disclose their whereabouts to their families. In a letter addressed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Amnesty International expressed grave concern over the disappearance of activists Hanif Pashteen and Noor Ullah Tareen, members of the civil rights movement Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, who were taken into police custody on November 12, last year, while leaving the Provincial Assembly in Peshawar.
