In a significant development, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, an alliance partner in the INDIA bloc, has announced that it will contest independently in three constituencies in the upcoming Puducherry Assembly elections. VCK party leader and Member of Parliament Thol Thirumavalavan in a social media post, said that the party will field candidates in Oussudu, Nettapakkam and Oulgaret constituencies.
VCK was allotted only one seat in the seat-sharing agreement reached between the Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam yesterday. Mr Thirumavalavan said that the decision to contest alone was taken in view of the prevailing uncertainty within the INDIA bloc. He added that the party would extend support to the INDIA bloc candidates in constituencies where VCK is not contesting.
