Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan praises Puducherry’s cultural legacy during maiden visit

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan said that Puducherry is a city of pride, which has, over the centuries, conveyed to the world not only the country’s ancient civilisation but also the enduring values of love and inclusiveness. He was addressing the Puducherry during his maiden visit to the Union Territory as Vice President. 
 
 
The Vice President said that Puducherry has carefully preserved its cultural excellence, recalling that eminent poets and thinkers such as Subramania Bharatiyar, V.V.S. Aiyar and Bharathidasan had, on this very soil, elevated Tamil into a beacon of knowledge. He added that the Union territory continues to cherish, celebrate and safeguard its unique identity, remaining a city that welcomes people from all walks of life.
 
 
Highlighting the Centre’s commitment to urban development, the Vice President said, owing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s deep affection for Tamil, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are among the states that have received a large number of projects under the Smart City Mission.
 
 
Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and Members of the Legislative Assembly participated in the function.
 
 
During the event, the Vice President distributed house keys to tenement dwellers of Kumaragurupallam under the Smart City Project. Beneficiaries Shanthi, Jayanthi, Lakshmi, Ammu, and Manimekhalai received the house keys from the Vice President.
 
 
Delivering the special address, Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan said that the youth of the country look upon Vice President CP Radhakrishnan as a role model and expressed hope that his tenure would serve as a golden period for Indian democracy.
 
 
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy said that the Vice President has rendered valuable support for the development of Puducherry and has been a strong pillar in advancing the progress of the Union Territory. 
 
 
The Vice President also interacted with beneficiaries of the Smart City Mission Housing Project at Kumaraguru Pallam Site, Puducherry. Later, the Vice President visited the Mahakavi Bharathiyar Memorial at Eswaran Koil Street, Puducherry, and offered floral tributes to Bharatiyar’s statue.
