Vice President C P Radhakrishnan today inaugurated the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026 at Surajkund in Faridabad, Haryana. Mr Radhakrishnan also launched the Mela Sathi App during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Radhakrishnan said, the Country’s artisans are the custodians of centuries-old knowledge and empowering them is essential to build a strong, inclusive and sustainable economy. He said, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s cultural heritage and traditional handicraft sector have been placed at the heart of the national renaissance. The Vice President added that the initiatives like Pradhanmantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana are providing end-to-end support, skill development and economic empowerment to artisans.
This year, the central theme of the fair is Local to Global, which means giving the traditional art of local artisans recognition on an international platform. Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya are the theme state of this year’s fair to cherish the visitors. This time, Egypt will participate as the partner nation in the fair. A large number of renowned national and international folk artists and cultural groups will present day performances at both the Chaupals, the open-air theatres, located in the Mela premises. There will also be enthralling cultural evening programmes at the main Chaupal during each of the Mela evening. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini was also present at the occasion. The festival will be held till 15th of next month.
