Kamini Kaushal, one of Hindi cinema’s earliest and most celebrated female stars, passed away at her Mumbai residence last night. She was 98. A close family friend confirmed the news.
Ms Kaushal, who began her film journey with the landmark 1946 classic Neecha Nagar, remained active on screen for more than seven decades. Once among the highest-paid actresses in the industry, she worked with legendary actors including Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Raj Kapoor, becoming a prominent face of the golden era of Hindi cinema.
Remarkably, she continued acting well into her nineties. Her final screen appearance came in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), where she appeared at the age of 95.
