Veteran actor Kalyan Chattopadhyay passes away at 82

Veteran actor Kalyan Chattopadhyay passed away at the age of 82. Recently, he had been hospitalised due to age‑related illness and breathed his last on Sunday night. His last rites were performed at Keoratala Mahashmashan the same night.
 
 
Born in Berhampore of Murshidabad district of West Bengal in 1942, he graduated from FTII Pune. He started his film career in 1968 with Tapan Sinha’s “Apanjan.”
 
 
He also acted in Satyajit Ray’s “Pratidwandi,” Tapan Sinha’s “Sagina Mahato,”   Tarun Majumdar’s “Dhannyi Meye,” as well as “Safed Haathi,”   “Paar,”  and the recent Hindi film “Kahani.”
 
 
He acted in over 400 films, several TV serials, and one series. His departure has cast a wave of grief across the film fraternity.
