In tennis, Valentin Vacherot, a 26-year-old qualifier from Monaco, claimed his first ATP title at the 2025 Shanghai Masters in Minhang, China. He defeated his cousin Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final.
Vacherot ranked 204, became the lowest-ranked player ever to win a Masters 1000 event, capping a fairytale run that included a semifinal win over Novak Djokovic.
The victory, which propels him into the ATP top 50 and earns over 1.1 million dollar, was deeply personal. Vacherot broke down in tears after match point, embracing family and reflecting on past struggles. He said after the match that this is One of the best times in his life.
