The availability of toilets for girl students in all government primary and secondary schools of Uttarakhand will be ensured by 8th March next year. In this regard, the State’s Chief Secretary, Anand Bardhan, issued necessary instructions to concerned officials during a meeting of the Secretaries’ Committee held at the Secretariat today. All District Magistrates also joined the meeting via video conferencing.

The Chief Secretary directed that an immediate action plan be presented to ensure regular cleaning and proper maintenance of school toilets. He stated that while toilets exist in most of the schools, they are not being used effectively due to the lack of proper upkeep. The Education Department has been instructed to ensure the availability of toilets and an effective cleaning system in all government schools across the state.
