In Uttarakhand, even a week after the natural disaster struck the Dharali and Harsil regions of Uttarkashi district, search, relief, and rescue operations are still ongoing. Braving challenging weather conditions, the Army, ITBP, NDRF, SDRF, and district administration have intensified efforts to locate those trapped under the debris using advanced equipment. Despite adverse weather, ground teams remain actively engaged in the operations.
To drain the water from the artificial lake formed in the Harsil area, the Irrigation Department is preparing to manually create a drainage path. Officers and workers of the department will be transported to Harsil by helicopter and have been instructed to stay there in a permanent camp. A team from UJVNL has also reached the site to assist in the drainage work. However, following the ongoing rainfall, rescue operations via helicopter could not be initiated in the Dharali area. The heli-operations have been temporarily halted due to bad weather.
Meanwhile, the Met Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall today in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Nainital, Champawat, Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar, and Bageshwar. Rain is also expected in other parts of the state. In light of the heavy rainfall warning, the Chamoli district administration has suspended movement on all trekking routes in the district for the next five days to prevent any untoward incidents.
