Severe damage was reported in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, following heavy rainfall late last night. Four villages in the Nandanagar region were the worst affected. Fourteen people are missing, and around twenty have been injured. Thirty-five houses were damaged due to the heavy rain and debris flow. So far, nearly 200 villagers have been evacuated to safer locations.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the situation with Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman and directed immediate relief and rescue operations. He instructed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured, a quick search for the missing, and adequate arrangements in relief camps. He also ordered the restoration of electricity, water supply, and damaged roads.
Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman stated that NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and other agencies are engaged in relief efforts. Due to heavy rain and landslides, rescue teams are facing difficulties reaching affected areas, but they are reaching the incident site on foot. Meanwhile, the Met Department has issued a yellow alert for rainfall in various parts of the state over the next 24 hours.
