US President Donald Trump will visit China from the 13th to the 15th of this month at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The announcement was made by the Chinese Foreign Ministry today. This will be the first visit to China by a US President in nearly nine years. Trump was also the last American President to visit China in 2017 during his first term in office.
The visit comes amid tensions between the two countries over trade, Taiwan and the ongoing conflict involving Iran. Ahead of the visit, China has once again described Taiwan as its core concern in relations with the United States.
Trade negotiations are also expected to gain momentum during the visit. Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng will travel to South Korea for talks with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent tomorrow and on Wednesday, ahead of President Trump’s arrival in Beijing.
