US President Donald Trump met with oil and gas executives at the White House following the US operation in Venezuela and subsequent capture of former President Nicolás Maduro last week. President Trump called on executives to rush back into Venezuela as the White House looks to quickly secure 100 billion dollars in investments to revive the country’s ability to fully tap into its expansive reserves of petroleum. He promised executives that their investments and workers would be safe because they are now dealing directly with the United States government instead of the Venezuelan government.
President Trump said, American companies originally built Venezuela’s oil industry using US technology and money, but those assets were later taken away. He criticized past US Presidents for not taking action, but promised that the US is now working to get those resources back. He also noted that large American oil companies are planning to spend 100 billion dollars of their own money to fix and rebuild Venezuela’s oil systems, which he believes will create a strong partnership between the two countries.
