US President Donald Trump has said that release of hostages under the Israel-Gaza peace deal is a dawn of a new Middle East. Addressing Israeli Parliament today after Hamas freed all living 20 hostages and Israel released Palestinian prisoners under the US-brokered ceasefire deal, Mr. Trump celebrated the end to a two-year long war.
The 20 remaining living hostages in Gaza were returned to Israel earlier today after two years of war. The bodies of 28 hostages who are presumed dead are still in the enclave. Emotional scenes unfolded as the freed hostages reunited with their families in hospitals across Israel and as Palestinian prisoners met with their relatives in the West Bank and arrived in buses back to Gaza.
Mr. Trump has arrived in Egypt and welcomed by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at the airport for a summit on Gaza’s future alongside other world leaders. President Trump will co-chair the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh with President El-Sisi. Over 20 world leaders will gather in the Summit to end the conflict in Gaza. During his meeting with el-Sisi, Trump said, second phase of negotiations of the peace deal has started.
Calling the ceasefire agreement an unprecedented accomplishment, President Sisi says he wants to work to bring all the remaining bodies of the Israeli hostages back to Israel, as well as making sure the ceasefire remains in place.
