The United States has granted Hungary a one-year exemption from U.S. sanctions on Russian oil and gas, following a meeting between President Donald Trump and Hungarian Prime Minister. This exemption comes despite Trump’s efforts to pressure Europe to stop using Russian energy.
In addition to the sanctions exemption, Hungary has committed to purchasing U.S. liquefied natural gas with contracts valued at approximately 600 million dollars. The meeting also focused on greater economic cooperation between the U.S. and Hungary. Trump also expressed support for Orban’s upcoming election, highlighting their shared hard-line about immigration policies.
