US Defense Department to Issue New Press Credentials, Relocate Media Offices Outside Pentagon

The U.S. Defense Department has said it will issue new press credentials and relocate media offices outside the Pentagon, following a lawsuit by the New York Times regarding limits on reporters’ access to the building. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the department disagrees with the decision and plans to appeal. A federal judge ruled that the Pentagon’s new policy illegally restricts the press credentials of reporters who refused new access rules. Under the changes, Mr. Parnell said journalists will work from an annex on Pentagon grounds rather than inside the building.
