Union Minister Virendra Kumar chairs 5th Meeting of National Consultative Committee on De-addiction & Rehabilitation

Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar chaired the 5th Meeting of the National Consultative Committee on De-addiction and Rehabilitation in New Delhi today. Addressing the gathering, the minister urged all members of the committee to actively and regularly share their views, suggestions, and feedback on this critical national issue of drug demand reduction.

During the meeting, the committee stressed the need to increase preventive efforts, especially among children and youth. It was suggested that students in colleges and universities should be more actively involved in awareness campaigns. Members highlighted the need to increase the number of treatment centres, especially those dedicated to women and children.

They also emphasised the importance of following standard procedures to ensure quality care. The expansion of de-addiction and rehabilitation services was also a key discussion. The committee also discussed the need for a strong monitoring system to track drug demand reduction activities and rehabilitation services. This would help ensure that programmes are effective and reach those in need.

The meeting called for further expansion of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to spread awareness and create a larger impact across the country. Members also suggested better coordination between different government platforms to address both drug supply and demand issues together.
