Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik virtually addresses India Energy Transition Summit 2026

Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, today said that India’s total installed power capacity has crossed over 520 gigawatts, with more than half of it coming from non-fossil fuel sources. Mr Naik said this while virtually addressing the India Energy Transition Summit 2026, organised by FICCI in New Delhi.

The Minister highlighted that the country’s solar capacity has more than tripled in recent years, while renewable energy has moved from the margins to the mainstream. He noted that this progress reflects strong policy clarity, transparent competitive bidding, expansion of green energy corridors, development of ultra-mega renewable energy parks, and promotion of rooftop solar under the PM Surya Ghar initiative.

Mr Naik said that India’s energy transition is not a distant aspiration but an ongoing transformation backed by clear targets and decisive action. He highlighted that the country has set an ambitious target of achieving 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, and the country is progressing towards net zero emissions by 2070.

He added that India’s energy transition is not only about reducing emissions but also about enhancing competitiveness, generating employment, strengthening energy independence, and building a resilient economy.
