Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited flood-hit areas in Punjab’s Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts and interacted with flood-affected people, including farmers.
Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industry, Ravneet Singh Bittu, was also with him.
Speaking to the media in Amritsar, the Agriculture Minister said Punjabis have always been at the forefront when it comes to serving the country and humanity. However, he said that today, Punjab is facing a difficult time due to floods and several villages have been impacted, fields are inundated and normal life has been disrupted.
He said he has been sent by the Prime Minister to take stock of the situation and assured that the Centre fully stands with the people of Punjab in this hour of crisis.
He stated that two central teams, comprising various departments including agriculture, rural development, roads, finance, and the energy sector, have reached Punjab to assess the situation arising out of floods and will submit a report to the Centre.
Earlier, Punjab Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, submitted a detailed flood report for five Punjab districts – Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur, to the Agriculture Minister and briefed him about the prevailing flood situation.
