Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Inaugurates Restored Vengalayapalem Pond in Andhra Pradesh

As part of the Watershed Mahotsav celebrations, Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan today inaugurated the 21-acre Vengalayapalem pond in Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh. The pond was restored at a cost of ₹1.2 crore. He was joined by Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, and Mr. Kandula Durgesh, State Culture Minister.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Chouhan said that water is the foundation for cultural and economic growth. He noted that programmes like the Watershed Development and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana are being implemented under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He highlighted that the ancient pond at Vengalayapalem has been successfully rejuvenated. The initiative, he said, would help recharge groundwater, improve soil fertility, and promote a sustainable rural economy. The Union Minister described the Vengalayapalem pond as a model project that could be replicated across the country. He added that such multipurpose ponds not only support environmental conservation but also enhance public health and cultural development.
