Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan alleges large-scale corruption in several schemes in Punjab, including MGNREGA

Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has alleged large-scale corruption in several schemes in Punjab, including MGNREGA. During a press conference in Bhopal yesterday, Mr Chouhan accused that around 10 thousand 653 cases of financial embezzlement have surfaced, but no action was taken by the state government.

The Minister alleged that irregular expenditure was incurred on activities not permitted under the MGNREGA. He said that workers had complained that they were not being paid their wages. The Minister claimed that social audits were conducted in only 5 thousand 915 of 13 thousand 304 panchayats in Punjab.
