Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today urged people to plant a tree to protect the environment. He appealed while addressing a special programme organised to mark the completion of five years of his unique tree plantation pledge in New Delhi.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Chouhan said that planting trees is the most powerful means of saving the environment. He emphasised that a dedicated platform should be created to connect a large number of people with the plantation campaign and turn it into a mass movement.
The Minister also proposed to set up Tree Banks to support the initiative. He said that saplings of trees will be made available through these Banks, with proper arrangements for planting and care.
The event celebrated the green journey that Mr Chouhan initiated on this day in 2021. On the occasion of Narmada Jayanti, he planted saplings at Amarkantak and resolved to plant at least one sapling every day.
