Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has said that the government is committed to achieving zero carbon emissions through the National Hydrogen Mission and greater emphasis on green energy. The Minister today flagged off a new fleet of electric trucks at the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, marking a significant step towards green transport and sustainable port operations.
He said that the government and his Ministry are taking all necessary steps to promote green transport while aligning with the Make in India initiative. He pointed out that every truck within the JNPA complex would be converted into an electric vehicle, helping achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.
Mr Sonowal highlighted that the government was working on the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the Maritime Amritkal Vision 2047, aimed at positioning India among the world’s top shipbuilding nations. He noted that by 2030, India would be counted among the top 10 shipbuilding nations, and by 2047, among the top five globally. He further remarked that over the past 11 years, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India had made remarkable progress and had attracted the attention of the world for its maritime and economic growth.
