The third Council meeting of the International Association of Lighthouse Authorities, or IALA, began in Mumbai yesterday.

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the three-day global summit. Welcoming maritime leaders from over 30 countries, the Minister highlighted India’s efforts to modernise maritime infrastructure by combining traditional seafaring knowledge with advanced digital and traffic-management technologies. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to safe and resilient navigation systems.

The summit is jointly organised by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
